Mushrooms Make Magic Molecules

What Makes Mushrooms Magic?

All mushrooms are magical- but there are a handful of species that stand miles above the rest in terms of their ability to help our mind and body thrive. And like so many other things in life- it’s what’s inside that counts. Here’s a quick breakdown of the compounds that make the difference:

1. Beta-Glucans

Beta-glucans are special types of polysaccharides (aka sugars) that are able to interact with and help modulate our immune system. This immunomodulating property means that if an immune system is over-reacting OR underperforming, beta-glucans have the power to get it back where it needs to be. It’s like taking your immune system to the gym! Where to find beta-glucans? Beta-glucans are found in any properly extracted mushroom. Some have a higher concentration than others. The mushroom most well-known for it’s beta-glucan power is Turkey Tail (35% beta-glucan content).

2. Terpenoids

Terpenoids are a class of compounds studied for their antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Terpenoids are not water soluble, and need to be extracted with alcohol to make them useful to your body. Where to find terpenoids? Some mushrooms are more well known for these compounds than others. Specifically, dual extracted Chaga and Reishi contain high levels of powerful triterpenes.

3. Cordycepin

Cordycepin is a super-unique compound similar in structure to a naturally occurring compound in our bodies called adenosine. If you remember from high school biology, adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, is the “energy currency” of the body. This is why cordycepin has been studied for its energy boosting abilities. Where to find cordycepin? This one is unique- and only found in one mushroom…. Cordyceps! Cordyceps is known as the “energy mushroom”, used by runners, athletes, and anyone looking for a boost. buy freshcap mushroom powders
